Where to Stay in Semirara,Island, Antique
The island of Semirara is not blessed with good roads, hotels or places to stay. The island is all about mining and money. Nothing has been reinvested to improve the islands infrastructure during more than 30 years of exploiting its natural resources.
The only place to stay on the Island is the Semirara Pension House which unsurprisingly is owned by the Mining Company whose owner is the Father in Law of the Mayor. I spent one night there in a dull, sub standard basic room, with no running water and a power cut, despite there being a backup generator.
I wanted to stay a further two nights on the island but i just wasn’t prepared to pay their extortionate rates of P1100 for a sub standard room, so I asked around and was pointed in the direction of Brgy Tinogboc and the home of Ma Rosalind Lopez.
Ma.Rosalind Lopez is a very friendly person and very quickly made me feel at home. I was given an airy spacious room with double bed and a fan, and could use the sitting room too. Her sister lives next door and also popped in to say Hello, again making me feel at home.
Her niece comes in to do the cooking and included in the daily rate are three meals which is exceptional value, especially as the food outlets on Semirara are few and far between. If you have any clothes that need to be washed then her niece will also wash and iron those for you for a small fee.
You will need to contact Ma.Rosalind ahead of your arrival and she can arrange pick up by tricycle from the pier too also for a small fee.
The price of P500 a night includes 3 meals and a fan room with double bed.
